The Honda CB is one of the Staples of the motorcycle industry. If you want to build a Honda Cafe racer, it comes in nearly every shape and size imaginable, and caters to different types of riders across the globe. On our last build, we based it off a 1979 Honda CB650 for this very reason: ease of modification, reliability and beginner friendly.
The CB650 is the perfect size bike in our opinion. It’s got the weight for a beginner to get on and go, as well as the power to thrill even a pro rider in the right conditions. The older CB’s are very easy to modify and convert into cafe racers too. So if you are looking for your first Cafe racer project this should be on your contender list.
Due to their unmatched reliability they are able to take years of abuse and keep you a happy owner for miles as long as you keep up with maintenance. Compared to competitors’ models the CB’s of the older generations hold up quite well.
The main thing to note is the price range which you can buy one of these bulletproof machines at. For under $1800 you can get yourself an amazing beginner motorcycle.
